Reading For All Learners
Your student will be getting these books as part of their Kindergarten Homework. Students who read these books routinely become more fluent readers more quickly, than students who don't. There is a very important routine that should be followed when reading with your child. Below I have outlined the routine. It is really important that you read the book 3 times. It will help build fluency. When your student is ready to pass off the book. Send it back to school the next day. It's really important that you fill out the paper inside the envelope when you return the book, this way the reading volunteer will know if your student is ready to pass off the book. The reading volunteer will read the book with the student, when they are finished they will get to put a sticker on their page. Every 10 books they ready they will get to pick a prize out of my treasuer box. |
Sound Practice and New Sound Practice.Have the student point to each letter and say it's name. It is really important that they review this page, regardless if they know their letters or not. Building fluency is key to reading success.

Word Practice and New Word PracticePractice and review the words in the book.
This is very important piece, because it helps build more confident readers. |
Level Up!When your student is ready to pass off the book. Send the book back in their reading envelope and the reading volunteer will read with your student. If they pass it off a new book will be sent home.
